When talking about web hosting, you also come across the term ‘web hosting resellers’, which essentially means that you obtain web hosting from a provider and in turn provide the hosting service to a third party. In other words you host your clients’ web site on your site which is hosted by an original web host to begin with. If you want to become a reseller you would of course have to find a web host who agrees to provide reseller services or is able to provide multiple domain hosting. You should be able to provide this service to your client at a fairly low rate making it an attractive proposition and therefore earning you a tidy sum for being a web hosting reseller. Being a web hosting reseller gives an individual/business the capacity to start their own web hosting business without the attendant botheration or cost of managing and maintaining equipment of their own. As a reseller one has the option of becoming an agent partner wherein you collaborate with a web host to resell their services. You find customers for the host and get paid on a commission basis. If on the other hand you don’t want the customer to find out that you are not the original host or actual provider, you would need the concurrence of the original provider to offer their services as your own. The original host would manage the machines, networks, DNS, and the actual uplinks to the Internet. Your contribution would essentially be that of a retailer or it could be value addition such as web design. If you have experience and skill in web design, that could be an added advantage because it would give you an edge over other web hosting resellers, who would have to employ designers, if they were to offer services of web design. Once your logos, banners and all are in place, you may think about advertising your services. You could publish banners on certain sites with some exchange system or submit your site to search engines etc. |
